Katz, Marshall & Banks senior partners Debra Katz and Lisa Banks have responded to new details regarding the FBI investigation into current Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings in 2018, when KMB client Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward with an allegation of sexual assault against Kavanaugh dating back to when the two were teenagers.
In a letter to Senate Democrats, FBI assistant director Jill Tyson said that the agency received more than 4,500 tips during the investigation, of which the most relevant were forwarded to the Office of White House Counsel. However, the FBI itself did not conduct further investigative action since the agency was performing a background check on Mr. Kavanaugh rather than a criminal investigation.
“Because the FBI and Trump’s White House Counsel hid the ball on this, we do not know how many of those 4,500 tips were consequential, how many of those tips supported Dr. Ford’s testimony, or how many showed that Kavanaugh perjured himself during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Ms. Katz and Ms. Banks said in a statement. “Our nation deserved better.”
