Kathryn Evans Discusses Forced Arbitration Law with Ignites

KMB associate Kathryn Evans was recently quoted in an article by Ignites, “#MeToo Law to Bring More Harassment Claims into Sunlight.”

The Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act was signed into law on March 3, effectively banning employers from requiring employees to sign mandatory arbitration agreements related to sexual misconduct. The new law is expected to have a seismic impact, as employees will be able to freely file a lawsuit if they’re subjected to sexual harassment or assault at work. 

According to Ms. Evans, the law has the potential to trigger a “domino effect,” where a resulting lawsuit could encourage other employees with similar experiences to come forward. She added that it could also act as a deterrent for harassers and encourage employers to be more vigilant.
